Saying NO for Your YES

Updated: Sep 4, 2020

I’ve been completely struck lately how fast this year has flown by; my goodness it’s already September 1st and wasn’t it JUST January. I do believe that the main reason I am living in this place of disbelief is that while my head was in the books for the last year time just sort of floated above me. Now that I have come to a holding place in my education I looked up and saw that Winter past, Spring already sprung, Summer is almost gone, and Autumn is about to lay her leaves down.

Gretchen Rubin nailed it when she said, “The days are long, but the years are short.”

So if our years are so short then why would we choose to design a life that is anything other than what we LOVE?

I can hear some people out there reading this groaning at that last comment. “Kimberly, I just can’t do what I love. I have responsibilities. I have to pay my bills.” OR “That sounds great, but I’m stuck in my job, my house, I can’t do what I love while the kids are still little.” Do any of these comments sound familiar? Ok, that’s normal. The idea of designing our life and stepping into a daily routine that we LOVE is uncharted territory for most, scary, and it involves risks. AND it is ultimately empowering and powerful.

So, if jumping off the deep end and into your dreams is still too big of an edge then start with a small step because LIFE IS JUST TOO SHORT TO NOT LIVE A LIFE YOU LOVE!

Here is my challenge to you. Say NO for your YES. The more you move the unnecessary to-dos off of your path the more time you will have. It’s true that we only have 24 hours in a day. We cannot get more than that, therefore the question is, “How do you use your time?” When a task be it, coffee with an acquaintance, curbside chat with a neighbor, errands with your sister, another extracurricular activity for the kids, a party, even a volunteer job for your church comes along ask yourself, “Does this honor MY time? Does involving myself in this task/event move me towards a life I love or does it clutter my path thus keeping me from pursuing my dream?”

That may sound selfish, but realize this…You have ONE life. And it’s YOURS to live. It’s YOURS to design. It’s YOURS to engage in AND it’s YOURS to THRIVE and LOVE.

I am not saying that every day will be a frolic in the meadow. For me school was certainly a beast to bear (especially with two little ones), but it was a dream of mine to finish and completing that mission was on my LOVE journey.

The more you say NO to the more time you have to say YES to what you LOVE.

So on this Labor Day, a day that reminds us how valuable our time truly is, WHAT WILL YOU SAY NO TO?
